Installing
Which versions of Windows are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit.
Windows says it blocked the installer. What should I do?
Office Silkie is new, and Microsoft is still completing the check of our publisher identity, so your browser or Windows may not recognize the installer yet. If you downloaded it from officesilkie.com, it's safe to continue: in your browser's downloads list choose Keep, and if Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. If your PC blocks it with no option to continue, please email support@officesilkie.com and we'll let you know as soon as the verified installer is ready.
Where are the apps after installing?
In the Office Silkie folder in your Start menu. They're installed for your Windows user only, so no administrator password is needed.
How do I uninstall?
Open Windows Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps. Find Office Silkie, click the three dots and choose Uninstall to remove all three apps, or Modify to remove just one. Your documents are not touched.
Trial & license
How long is the free trial?
30 days for the whole suite, starting the first time you open any of the three apps. The title bar shows how many days are left.
What happens when the trial ends?
The apps show the Office Silkie window with Buy and "I already bought it" instead of opening. Your documents stay on your PC and open again once you activate.
I bought Office Silkie. Why is there no license key?
You don't need one. When the payment goes through, the PC you bought from unlocks by itself. On another PC, choose "I already bought it" and sign in with your purchase email.
How do I move my license to a new PC?
On the new PC, open any Office Silkie app, choose "I already bought it", sign in with your purchase email and choose "Move to this PC". The license moves over, and the old PC stops using it at its next check. You can also choose "Deactivate this PC" on the old PC first, or remove a PC in your account.
Does Office Silkie work offline?
Yes. The license is checked online about once a week, and the apps keep working offline for up to 30 days at a time.
Updates
How do updates work?
About twice a month each app checks for a new version. If there is one, it shows you what's new. Nothing downloads until you click Download & install, and it installs when you restart or close the app, after asking you to save your work. You can also use "Check for updates" at any time.
Files & compatibility
Will my Word and Excel files look the same?
Silkie Write and Silkie Sheets open and save .docx and .xlsx files, including fonts, themes and theme colours. Moving files between different programs is never perfect, so please check the files you rely on during the trial, and keep backups of important documents.
Why can't I use Aptos and other Microsoft 365 fonts?
Microsoft 365 "cloud fonts" such as Aptos are licensed for use in Microsoft Office only. Office Silkie shows a close substitute instead. Every font installed in Windows itself is available.
Is the PDF signature a legal digital signature?
The signature tool places an image of your signature on the page. It is not a certified digital signature. If a document needs a certified signature, use a dedicated e-signature service.
Privacy
Do my documents get uploaded anywhere?
No. Your documents never leave your PC. The apps contact our server only to run your trial and license and to check for updates. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.
